Turn a robot demonstration into an evidence-gap register
List the untested conditions between a demonstration and the intended application. A gap register should describe what remains to be learned, not convert a demonstration into deployment approval.
Evidence and interpretation
The NIST AI RMF overview places risk considerations across the AI lifecycle. Maha’s proposed robotics register translates that broad motivation into a decision document. For each intended capability, identify the evidence available, its operating conditions and the missing observation. Separate software correctness, physical performance, human suitability and authorization. One can improve while another remains unresolved. Assign a technical owner and a bounded next test rather than recording a vague requirement to obtain more confidence.
Proposed evidence workflow
- Compare the intended setting with demonstrated objects, people, timing and environment.
- For every gap, state the consequence of being wrong and the evidence needed to resolve it.
- Record who may decide whether the remaining uncertainty is acceptable; the ledger itself grants no authority.
Worked illustration
A bench transfer leaves crowded-space navigation, fragile-object handling and recovery untested. Our proposed register gives each a separate entry. A successful software replay closes only the reproducibility entry; it does not close the physical or human-facing gaps.
Limits
This is not a risk assessment for a specific robot and must not be used as a safety release checklist without qualified domain review.
