Separate access to robot episodes from permission to reuse them

Evidence and interpretation

NIST’s privacy framework motivates examining risks to individuals; it does not grant reuse rights. Maha proposes distinct fields for dataset licensing statements, collection permissions, personal information and intended redistribution. An episode may contain bystanders or spoken information even when its task labels look harmless. A repository-level license is a starting point for review, not proof that every included asset has the same status. Where the basis cannot be established, keep the reference and withhold the media from the delivery.

Proposed evidence workflow

1. Identify the proposed use: internal inspection, training, evaluation or redistribution.
2. Record the source of each permission statement and unresolved restrictions without inventing a legal conclusion.
3. Minimize shared content and route unresolved cases to an appropriate rights/privacy reviewer.

Worked illustration

A supplier provides a downloadable kitchen demonstration but no permission to republish its footage. Our proposed dossier can record that a source exists while withholding the clip. A hash is not a substitute for the missing permission.
