Record recovery without erasing the original failure

A recovered task contains at least two important facts: something failed, and a subsequent action restored progress. Keep both instead of replacing the original attempt with a successful ending.

Evidence and interpretation

Maha’s proposed recovery ledger extends component-oriented evaluation into an event sequence. It records the observed failure, the recovery decision and the new attempt’s conditions. A manual reset that changes object alignment can make the retry easier, so the retry must not silently inherit the first attempt’s conditions. Distinguish a continuation from a new trial according to the frozen task contract. This bookkeeping can reveal the practical cost of recovery without pretending to prescribe a safe physical procedure.

Proposed evidence workflow

  1. Preserve the failed outcome and link each subsequent recovery event to it.
  2. Record changed conditions, assistance and the authority responsible for resuming.
  3. Report first-attempt and eventual completion separately with their exact denominators.

Worked illustration

A synthetic grasp fails, an operator repositions the object, and a retry completes. Reporting one autonomous success would hide both the failure and the assistance. Our proposed ledger reports the original failure and the assisted retry as distinct evidence.

Limits
