Record the robot configuration behind each trial
Describe the hardware and software configuration actually present during an evaluation, including substitutions. A product model name hides too many variables for reproducible comparison.
Evidence and interpretation
Maha’s proposed configuration record borrows version discipline from software quality practice, without treating a robot as merely a package. Record body, end effector, sensing, relevant firmware and task fixtures as separately versioned components. A gripper replacement or camera remount is a meaningful change even if the planner commit stays fixed. Distinguish observed component identity from supplied inventory. The record should let a reviewer identify what changed, not force every variation into a single opaque revision label.
Proposed evidence workflow
- List task-relevant components and whether their identity was observed or declared.
- Bind calibration and model artifacts to this configuration revision.
- Preserve a change history and identify which prior comparisons remain applicable.
Worked illustration
A synthetic comparison replaces a wide gripper with a narrow one while keeping controller code fixed. The proposed packet refuses to describe a changed success rate as a controller-only improvement. Both configuration records remain accessible for interpretation.
Limits
This is not a hardware inventory scanner, maintenance programme or certification of component compatibility.
