Worked example: checking a LeRobot episode reference
Resolve the episode through its metadata and preserve its data, video and transformation references. Do not assume that one video file is one evaluation attempt.
Evidence and interpretation
LeRobotDataset v3 separates episode identity from storage-file boundaries. Maha’s proposed walkthrough uses that fact to check whether a supplied episode reference is sufficiently specific for review. The intake must still establish task identity, split membership, rights basis and outcome observation. A technically resolvable episode can remain unsuitable for the requested claim. Inspect a sanitized manifest first; do not download media whose access or reuse basis is unresolved.
Proposed evidence workflow
- Bind dataset revision and episode reference to the metadata used to resolve offsets.
- Check that required streams, split lineage and rights information are available for the proposed use.
- Return separate findings for structural resolution, evidence sufficiency and permission to deliver.
Worked illustration
Synthetic episode 7 points to rows within a shared data shard and a segment of a shared video. A reference to the entire MP4 is rejected as insufficiently specific. After offsets are supplied, the episode is locatable, but a missing training-split history still prevents an unseen-evaluation claim. Resolving the locator does not close that second gap.
Limits
No dataset was downloaded or parsed. This is a worked intake specification, not an operational LeRobot adapter or a rights determination.
